Cost Calculation Workshop for Locals

Our current Volunteer Anna arranges presentations of cost calculations for people who have received a training in the training center to help them calculate their prices for each of their self-produced products. The presentation shows how important it is to write down the costs and expenditures of the raw materials and the costs involved in the production and procurement process. By a detailed calculation, it is possible to get at a sales price in which all costs and the desired profit is included. She reports that even after the first presentations and joint calculations it was clear that people who were trained in different professions have little or no idea about their sales prices or whether it is profitable to produce the products themselves.

“It was shocking to see that most people make a loss with selling their products” Anna says. As part of the calculations, she calculates a new sales price with calculated profit in it. For example, if a pair of sports shoes from all shoemakers in Guabuliga are sold at a price of 36 GHC (7.20 €) instead of 25 GHC (5.00 €) there is no competition in the village and a profit of 3 GHC (0.60 €) is included. “With this project, I want to create an understanding of how selling prices arise and I want to enable the sellers in Guabuliga to make a profit with their self-produced products rather than lose money.”
