World Care Day

Today we mark World Care Day, a global day of recognition for children and young people who have experienced care.

This year’s theme, Breaking Barriers, speaks to the daily realities many young people continue to face. Stigma, discrimination, unequal access to education, housing, health services and stable transitions into adulthood. These are not abstract concerns, they shape opportunities and futures.

World Care Day invites us to listen closely to the voices of young people with care experience. Their stories reflect strength, creativity and determination and reveal where systems fall short.

For organisations, practitioners and policymakers, this day is both a celebration and a call to responsibility. It calls for practical action, removing structural barriers, strengthening support systems, challenging harmful assumptions and creating pathways that allow young people to define their own direction in life.

#Children and young people in care are not defined by their circumstances. With the right support, they will lead and thrive.

On this World Care Day, let us commit to breaking barriers together and ensuring every young person with a care experience has the space, support and opportunity to shape their future with confidence.
